Performed in association with Dr C van der Watt, the shoulder replacement procedure involves replacing damaged cartilage and bone with prosthetic components made from metal, ceramic, and plastic materials. During the procedure, Dr Storm and Dr van der Watt will generally use modern techniques to replace damaged surfaces with artificial components.

Shoulder replacement surgery may be recommended for patients suffering from one of the following:

• A rotator cuff tear that cannot be repaired
• Severe shoulder pain
• Severe osteoarthritis
• Rheumatoid arthritis
• Severe fracture

Before undergoing shoulder replacement surgery, your orthopaedic surgeon will perform a full evaluation. After the surgery, you will need to see a physiotherapist to ensure full recovery.
